Points are worth what you redeem them for, not a fixed published number. To value a portfolio, multiply each balance by a cents-per-point figure for that program and add the results. The defaults below are The Points Guy's published valuations, used as a starting point because they are public and documented. Where these default rates come from
The starting figures are not ours. They are The Points Guy's published valuations, which they recalculate monthly and document the method for. We use them as a default because a shared, publicly explained baseline is more useful than a number we invented, and because pretending otherwise would undermine the point of showing our working.
Change any of them. A published average describes what a program is worth to everybody, which is to say nobody in particular. What matters is the rate you achieve, and the only way to know that is to look at what your own past redemptions returned. Our methodology page shows how we calculate the figures that are ours, and draws the line between the two.
A balance is not money
Points are a promise from a company that can change the terms, and programs devalue with little notice. A balance sitting still is depreciating, quietly, which is the strongest argument for having a redemption in mind rather than accumulating for its own sake.
Note that this page keeps nothing. Everything you type stays in your browser and is gone when you close the tab. If you want these balances kept, valued at rates you set once, and warned about when they go stale, that is the tracker.
